Yodit Girmay is a multilingual Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC-IRB) in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC). With over 20 years of experience supporting newcomers in Canada, she brings a deep and nuanced understanding of immigration law, refugee resettlement, sponsorship programs, and pathways to permanent residency and citizenship.

Yodit’s expertise spans a wide range of immigration matters, including temporary residence permits, skilled worker applications, refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, family reunification, and appeals. She is recognized for her meticulous case preparation, strategic advocacy, and compassionate approach — consistently guiding individuals and families through complex immigration processes with precision and care.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Carleton University and a Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law from Queen’s University. She remains committed to ongoing professional development to stay current with immigration policies and legal trends, providing clients with informed, practical, and tailored solutions.

In addition to her immigration practice, Yodit has over a decade of experience working as a translator and interpreter for refugees, helping bridge communication gaps in legal, medical, and settlement contexts. This work has given her a profound, first-hand understanding of the unique challenges faced by displaced individuals navigating Canada’s immigration and legal systems.

Beyond client representation, Yodit has led policy development, stakeholder engagement, and program implementation across government and community sectors. She is the Founder and Volunteer Executive Director of the Mehari Centre, a community-based organization supporting newcomers, with a focus on culturally responsive services and community empowerment.

Her dedication to human rights and social justice has been recognized through awards such as the Roberto Miranda Award from the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) chapter at the University of Ottawa.

Yodit is fluent in English, French, Amharic, and Tigrinya, and is deeply committed to helping clients navigate the Canadian immigration system with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
