Dear Prospective RCICs,

As you progress through the CICC membership process following your successful completion of the Entry-to-Practice Exam (EPE), one of the final evaluation stages involves a review of Good Character and Good Conduct.

During this review, it is possible that the College may identify individuals with the same or similar names who have engaged in unauthorized immigration consulting activities in contravention of section 91 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Please do not be alarmed if such a case arises; the CICC may contact you to request clarification or further information to ensure that you are not implicated in any misconduct and that you meet the standards required for membership.

This is a standard part of the CICC’s due diligence process, and their commitment to upholding the integrity of the profession should be commended. There is no cause for concern unless there is a legitimate issue. If you are confident that you have acted appropriately and within the bounds of the law, a clear and honest explanation will generally suffice.
